Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I consider a custom mural for my home or business?

As a homeowner, a custom mural from Leksi Paints is a superior choice over wallpaper or off-the-shelf options, even if it comes at a higher cost. A one-of-a-kind mural will create a truly unique and personalized space.

Imagine a vibrant, personalized work of art that speaks to your unique personality, style and aesthetic.

As a business owner, a custom mural can significantly enhance your company's visual appeal and branding. A visually striking mural can attract the attention of passersby, drawing them into your establishment and increasing foot traffic. A custom mural that aligns with your brand's aesthetic and messaging can help reinforce your company's identity and values. This can foster a stronger connection with your target audience and make your business more memorable.

What is the cost of a mural?

Pricing for your one-of-a kind mural ranges between $15-25 per square foot.

My pieces are fully handpainted, which is a labor intensive process. Price is determined with a number of factors in consideration- including texture of the wall, accessability and the complexity of the design. If you have a budget in mind, I am happy to look with you at your space and talk with you about what is possible within your constraints. The cost of your mural includes planning and design discussion, design sketching, consultation and materials.

How do I prepare for a mural?

The cost of the mural assumes the wall is ready to paint. Smooth texture is best and will allow for the best painting experiences with the crispest details. The more textured a wall, the more difficult it is to paint and the harder it is to get crisp, fine details. You should consider mudding/smoothing a wall that is more textured than “Orangepeel.” Your wall should be clean and primed. Prepping tends not to be a huge issue for interior walls, but exterior walls absolutely MUST be cleaned and primed.

I’m renting or I’m thinking about moving. What are my options?

You have a few. MDF panels can be installed on your wall that can be painted on. Those panels will be screwed into the wall, but can be easily taken down and moved with you to your new home. Wall repair upon removal of the panels is minimal (hole filling). You might also consider a few painted panels made out of MDF and created off-site that can be hung on the wall. These are easily movable to a new space.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Right now, Venmo, Zelle, cash or check.

What does the process of developing and creating a mural entail?

I encourage you to research potential artists and find the best fit for your mural goals. Before you pay a deposit and decide to work with me, you and I will discuss your space. Through a combination of in-person, virtual and email exchanges, we will discuss your vision and budget and potential walls for your work. We will discuss your desired theme and mood for the project. Sharing images, examples of work you’ve found that you like, or even a Pinterest board can be helpful as we engage in this collaborative discussion. I will also share some images that I’ve found with you for feedback so that we can ensure we are on the same page and share a similar vision for the direction of the completed piece. I will then provide you with a quote for the piece- which will be between $15-20 per square foot (interior) or $20-25/sq ft (exterior) and will include an estimated time frame for completion. If you decide to go with me, I will ask for a 25% deposit. Your mural pricing includes some sketches and more discussion of color palette before the painting starts. Throughout the painting process, we will talk to make sure you are thrilled with the finished project. The process of painting can take anywhere from 1-2 days for small projects, to several weeks for complex large walls. The remainder of the mural cost is due upon completion.

What expertise do you have?

I embarked on full-time mural creation earlier this year, but art making has always been part of my life. It is a pleasure to be able to devote myself fully to art making. As both an undergrad and a graduate student, art practice was a part of my day-to-day. My professional career started in teaching in Chicago, where I had the opportunity to not only teach high school history, but a section of art at the small alternative school where I taught. When I became a licensed mental health therapist, I worked in both non-profit and educational settings, where my training as an art therapist enabled me to use art to facilitate community building, personal insight both amongst the youth I served and in professional development with colleagues. Personal art making has always been something I have done for myself- I’m looking forward to sharing my skills with you.

What if I change my mind about the theme of a mural?

When we are just getting started collaborating, you and I will talk and agree upon a theme. In addition to the subject matter of the mural, we will talk about the style and the mood of your desired piece (ie: spooky/creepy forest or serene beach scene) in addition to palette choices (light pastels, or moody darks). We will exchange images of things you like. Once we agree upon a price and you pay a deposit, I will begin working on design sketches. Sketches and design discussion are included in the price of your mural. A SIGNIFICANT change in direction (“That sketch is nice, but I no longer want a pod of whales, I’d like a wolf pack in a Picasso style”) you will be billed at $75/hour while I sketch a new design. Design sketches typically take 3-4 hours.

What paints do you use?

I use a combination of house paints (interior or exterior depending upon project). I like Benjamin Moore because it’s a quality paint maker and they sell quarts- which is handy for murals! I also use a high quality acrylic artists paints made by both Nova Color and Golden, which are popular with muralists for their ease of application, lightfastness and color vibrancy.

Do you offer discounts for schools or Non Profits?

Yes. Full time painting is a career change for me from years of public education and non-profit work. I understand and deeply believe in the power the art has to enhance and environment and provide a warm and inviting space. I welcome inquiries for your school or organization and we can discuss what is possible within your budget.
